Name the main ecosystems within the coastal zone. State the ecological importance of each ecosystem.
The three main ecosystems are mangroves/wetlands, seagrass beds and coral reefs. 1- Mangroves/Wetlands: The wetland ecosystem filters terrestrial storm water flowing to the ocean and also provides a nursery and safe haven to various species of marine life. 2- Seagrass beds: The seagrass beds acts as a nursery and food source for marine animals, a sediment filter and some species aid in sand production. 3- The coral reefs which are considered one of the most diverse ecosystem on the planet acts as a nursery, shelter from predators, food source for some species, a natural wave attenuation structure and the biggest contributor to sand production for beaches.
The human heart acts as a pump which circulates blood around the body. Name two blood vessels leading to the heart and two blood vessels leaving the heart in the circulatory system.
The Vena Cava: Transports de-oxygenated from the body to the heart. The Pulmonary Vein: Transports oxygenated blood from the lungs to the heart. The Pulmonary Artery: Transports de-oxygenated blood from the heart to the lungs. The Aorta: Transports oxygenated blood from the heart to the body.
