Question:

Read the following sentence taken from a passage: "I walked towards the shop with a feeling of hope, but the manager gave me a cold stare as soon as I entered." What is the closest meaning of "cold" in this sentence? A) Chilly B) Infection C) Hostile D) Excited

Prerna M.
Answer:

The correct answer is C) Hostile. While "cold" can mean "chilly" or of low temperature in certain contexts, this sentence refers to the manager's expression, so "chilly" would be incorrect. "Infection" is also incorrect because once again, the sentence uses the word "cold" to describe the expression of the manager. Additionally, the word "cold" is used as an adjective in this sentence, while B) refers to "cold" as a noun (viral cold/infection). While "excited" is an adjective that may describe a person's expression, the context of this sentence allows the reader to infer that the manager is not happy or excited. Rather, the manager is upset, and thus the correct answer is C) Hostile.

Prerna M.
Answer:

El próximo año, estudiaré más con mis amigos y los grupos de estudio. Pienso que el estudio con otros estudiantes me ayudará a aprender más contento de mis clases. Además cuando comience el año escolar, correré antes de mis clases por la mañana. Es importante mantener mi salud física durante el año, entonces correré para hacer los ejercicios. Finalmente, hablaré con mis profesores más frecuentemente cuando necesito ayuda. Preguntaré más sobre el contento para que el material no sea tan difícil durante los exámenes y el final. Next year, I will study more with my friends and study groups. I think that studying with other students will help me learn more content from my classes. Additionally when the school year begins, I will run before my classes in the morning. It is important to maintain my physical health during the year, so I will run to do exercise. Finally, I will talk with my professors more frequently when I need help. I will ask more about the content so that the material is not that difficult during the exams and the final.

Question:

Describe your favorite place to travel. Include specific details and descriptions of this place. Why is this your favorite place to travel?

Prerna M.
Answer:

My favorite place to travel is the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. I stayed in a cabin at the park with my family last summer, and it was very memorable. The park contains many trails for hiking and biking, and we hiked with our German Shepherd puppy on one of the trails. My favorite attraction of the park was Clingman's Dome, where we had breathtaking views of the mountains. The cabin was located in a wooded area with many trees, and we often sat outside at night to stargaze and enjoy the nighttime sounds of nature. This is my favorite place to travel because it is very peaceful and has many opportunities to explore nature.
