Water has a high specific heat which means that it takes a lot of energy in order to change the temperature up or down, this heat stability in the water carries to the coastal environment. Land near water, like Pensacola, Florida has less extreme fluctuations in seasonal temperature than a land locked area like Bozeman, Montana.
Describe the importance of genetic variation in a species population.
Genetic variation within a species is important to drive forward evolution. The surrounding environment is always changing and a species will need to adapt in order to survive. The different combinations of genes is what produces mutations which may be a solution to an ecological problem or simply increase the organism's success in survival. Without genetic variation, an entire population could be wiped out by a single change in the environment.

Fusiform body- the torpedo shape of the tuna's body reduces drag moving through the water. Lunate tail- has the best forward thrust power of all of the tail shapes. Dorsal and anal finlets- reduce drag moving through the water.
