Questions
Subject: English as a Second Language
Why don't people understand how I speak or write?
People understand us not because of the words we use, but by the patterns we are used to seeing and habits that are more cultural than linguistic. So, that means that foreign speakers need to make a few habit changes so the people who listen to them or read their work can understand them faster and easier. If it takes someone too long to understand you, they will stop paying attention and will disconnect from you.
Subject: English
How do you start a writing assignment?
Divide the answer into three parts by answering these questions: First, what do I want to say, really? What is the meat of my answer? Second, what are 3 examples I can give and explain that demonstrates the validity of my answer? Third, now that I know what must be said, what's the best way to begin a conversation about this topic and my ideas about it if I imagine someone found my paper on the ground and has no idea what they are about to read? Then, you have three parts. Reverse the order and begin to write in complete sentences for your first draft.
Subject: Communication
Did you know that how you communicate will attract some and repel others? Did you know that certain words can be positive or negative triggers to your teacher, your parents, or other students and could limit your life's path if you don't use language deliberately? Do you know how to express yourself while still fulfilling the requirements asked of your teacher?
Our future is determined by our environment, not our will. We can be intelligent, have a great work ethic and be humble learners, but if we don't communicate well enough to work with others and demonstrate our value as a team player or a leader, our achievements will have a ceiling. Improve how you speak and write and learn how to bring these skills with you in the future by understanding how language works and the little habits you can change to get amazing results.
