Why is strong writing important in day to day life?

Answer:

Everyone writes all of the time. Whether it be a paper for school, a newspaper article, or even a text to a friend, writing is a massive part of our culture. The first things you learn in school as a child are the abilities to read and write, and then you spend the rest of your education bettering these skills. Writing well will improve your professional and intellectual skills and help you succeed in college and in your career.

Subject: US History

Question:

How does the study of US History effectively give students a well-rounded concept of the nation's past, present, and future?

Answer:

The study of US History reflects on a number of themes, including gender and sexuality, economic changes, immigration and cultural differences, labor and business, and the evolution of the political landscape. Emphasizing the changes seen throughout the beginnings of American life is the most crucial piece of studying US History so that students can understand the basis of many modern ideas and practices and how these have changed and created a lasting impact over time and continue to change in our current society.

Subject: English

Question:

How is the study of English different in a high school AP setting and in a college course setting?

Answer:

Most AP-oriented English classes in high school are geared to prepare you for exactly that: the AP tests. Students use practice exams as course materials and are trained to think in a test-taking mindset. The essays are structured more rigidly in accordance with AP themes and there is less freedom to explore the subject of English. In college, students take English classes either as a required component of their curriculum or for long term benefits in their major. There is no standardized test to adhere to and students are invited to think more creatively. The reading material is freer and more stimulating than AP readings and students are not pressured to obsess over the guidelines of one national test.
