Question:

How is writing a speech different from writing an essay?

Answer:

In a speech, typically, what you have written down is for your eyes only, no one will fault you or dock points if your paragraph structure is non existent and some of your sentences are actually fragments. However, in a speech you have to be more cognizant of your rhetorical devices, it's much more imperative that your words are enticing to an audience than if they're spelled correctly. Thus, you have more freedom in structuring your speech, and while in an essay you would typically reserve room for a maximum of one anecdote, either at the beginning or at the end, in a speech you are able to place them throughout your paper as examples and instances of personal connection with a speech. This is another difference between the two, in an essay there is greater disconnect between the author of the paper and the reader. While in a speech the author/orator and the audience are physically together and there is no distance in the ownership of the words. Thus, speeches are much more likely to utilize the first person than an essay.

Question:

What does Senator Joseph McCarthy represent?

Answer:

Senator McCarthy, most well known for the McCarthyism movement he inspired during the Red Scare years of the Cold War encapsulates the all encompassing fear the Cold War brought to some American citizens. His utilization of television to publicize his hearings and magnificent rhetoric spread hysteria and distrust throughout the United States, no one knew who they could trust. For years, McCarthy was able to continue spreading panic without ever being required to provide proof for his accusations. Until he shifted his attacks to members of the United States Army, it was only then that he started being censured and prompted a more wide spread critique of his actions. Ultimately, accusing members of the US Army led to a drastic decrease in his influence. This demonstrates the overwhelming strength of the the US Army in national moral and opinion. In the United States, soldiers are more than just ordinary citizens, they are the best of the best and as such it is completely unimaginable for high ranking officials to be traitors to the nation. Senator McCarthy, both in his fanaticism in finding communist moles in America and his quick decline from public favor once he turned his accusations towards the US Army demonstrates the intense patriotism Americans feel towards their country and the loyalty they have to the ideals it promotes.

Question:

What were some of the significant consequences of German unification?

Answer:

German unification lead to a rush in colonialism as Germany entered the fray, simultaneously prompting England and France to re-energize their efforts. Eventually leading all European nations to focus on creating vast overseas Empires as they grappled with changing political dynamics on the European continent. An example of the changes in political dynamics is that Germany and France immediately developed an animosity as they fought over Alsace-Lorraine, especially as France lost that battle and was then forced to pay an indemnity for having started the war.
