What were some of the reasons after World War I that might have led Germany to initiate another war in 1939?
First, the Great Depression from 1929 had put Germany and the rest of the world in a bad financial position. As a consequence, the German economy had suffered greatly, leading many Germans to blame the Treaty of Versailles, signed after the First World War, as having put too much pressure and too strict regulations on Germany after the war, leaving a financially weak country. Second, after the First World War, Germany's failed attempt of becoming a democracy with the "Weimarer Republic" left an even more unstable political system in the country, with no real guidance or security. As a consequence of these first two points, it is important to mention that Adolf Hitler, who had taken power in 1933 becoming Germany's Chancellor, served as a strong leader for Germany, giving the German population financial, political and social hope of once again strengthening the country in these areas. Finally, another of many reasons that might have caused the eruption of World War II, was the failure of the League of Nations created after World War I, as not all nations joined the League, it had no standing army and it essentially had no power of intervening or preventing another war or violent uprising in one of its member nations.
