Question:

Please describe the structure of a basic essay and the purpose of each block.

Joseph W.
Answer:

Basic essay structure contains three main sections, an introduction, the body, and conclusion. The introduction establishes the topic and reason for writing the essay. Typically, this section contains a Thesis Statement which is an overall statement to summarize the main argument or purpose for the author to write the essay. This statement is often followed by supporting statements which outline the body of the essay. The body is comprised of facts and details that stand alone from each other but work together to support the thesis statement. Each separate supporting idea is divided by paragraphs. The strongest argument or supporting detail often leads from the introduction and succeeding paragraphs continue to build support on the ideas the preceded them. Concluding statements summarize the thesis and how the main talking points of the essay build the argument that makes up the essay.

Answer:

Service Fee: ($103x3.5%)+$0.99= $4.595~ $4.60 Card Processing Fee: ($103x3%)= $3.09 Tax on Service Fee: ($4.595x5%)=$0.22975~ $0.23 Tax on Final Sale Price:($103x5%)= $5.15 $4.60+$3.09+$0.23+$5.15= $13.07 The price in fees is beyond what I am willing to pay for selling my baseball card using this online service.

Question:

Please explain when it is appropriate to use a semicolon and provide an example.

Joseph W.
Answer:

A semicolon is used when one sentence is made up of two ideas or parts. The semicolon essentially combines the two sections into one complete thought. For example: Some people like to listen to music; others like to play music.
