About Allison
Learning how to communicate well can be one of the most liberating experiences, not matter your field. This is why I love teaching writing, reading, oral presentation, and English language acquisition. In my free time, I enjoy playing ukulele and tending to my plants.
Teaching Experience
I am a senior finishing out my student teaching placement in the 7-12 English Language Arts classrooms. Over my past three year in my teaching program, I have accrued over 300 hours of teaching experience. After this year of full-time teaching, I will have well over 1,000 hours of experience. Previously, I have taught English as a Second Language to middle school students in Mexico City. I also prepared and taught the first U.S. Citizenship Test Preparation Summer Course through Literacy Pittsburgh to adults in the Pittsburgh area.
Education
Ohio University
Education - Integrated Language Arts/English Education
Bachelor's Degree
2015 - 2019
Work Experience
Student Writing Center, Ohio University, Peer Tutor
2016 - Present
We work with undergraduate and graduate clients of all backgrounds, nationalities, disciplines, and levels of English writing experience. While we can provide tips on editing, we believe in tutoring the writer rather than the paper, which often looks like writing process discussions, Socratic questioning, and reader-response reflections.
Extended Day Services, Teacher
2018 - 2018
As a summer teacher, I welcomed and led my group of children through the day's activities. Each day presented its own problems, and each group of children was different, so this position taught me how to think on my feet, a valuable skill for any teacher.
