Question:

It is best to read over notes for a test... (select the best answer) a) Right before the test b) The night before the test c) A week before the test d) I shouldn't review before the test

Hunter T.
Answer:

While C is beneficial, you can lose a lot of material if you *only* review it that one day a week before the test. If you read over them *throughout* the week before the test, then it would be different. In this case, B is the best answer. While you are advised not to "cram" for a test, you should review material that you have difficulty with the night before. You shouldn't stay up all night doing this, however, because that would be less beneficial for you. By reviewing this the night before and getting proper sleep, it will help you retain the information for the test the next day.

Question:

In this list of numbers {25, 15, 36, 48, 52, 15, 3, 7}, what is the n-value, mean, standard deviation, min/max, median and interquartile range(IQR)?

Hunter T.
Answer:

In upper level maths, especially statistics and calculus, it is advised to have a TI-84 Texas Instruments calculator. The answer to this problem can be found by completing simple steps using this calculator. By going to STAT and hitting number 1 (Edit), you can enter all of the values into L1 (list one). After doing so, you can hit STAT again, but this time go over to CALC and hit enter when you have 1 (1-Var Stats) selected. Hit enter again and this will display all of the information needed to answer this question. The n-value is 8, the mean (x-bar) is 25.125, the standard deviation of this sample is 18.466, the minimum is 3, the maximum is 52 (scroll down to see these answers) and the median is 20. The only thing that is not directly shown is the interquartile range, which is found by taking Q3-Q1. In this case, Q3 is 42 and Q1 is 11, so the IQR is 31.
