Question:

Why is it important to use active voice over passive voice whenever possible?

Erin M.
Answer:

Active voice makes the meaning of sentences more clear, such as who performed an action on what. For example "The boy dribbled the ball" is much clearer and easier to understand than "The ball was dribbled by the boy."

Question:

Describe the process of bone repair (e.g. if a bone is broken).

Erin M.
Answer:

To repair bone, the body first creates a hematoma, or blood clot in the broken area. Next, fibroblasts from the periosteum (connective tissue that covers most bone surfaces) form a soft callus while osteoblasts start to form more permanent bone. Eventually the osteoblasts form a bony callus, while further remodeling from osteoclasts smooths out the area as needed.

Question:

Describe a technological development that allowed the Impressionists to paint outside (i.e. en plein aire).

Erin M.
Answer:

Around the time the Impressionsts were active (19th century), paint tubes were developed. This allowed artists to take their paints with them (even oil paints) allowing them to paint on location to a much greater extent than before. Painting outside on location allowed the Impressionists to capture atmospheric effects of light and color on landscapes and outdoor scenery, which is one characteristic of their work.
