What do you enjoy most about Math?
Math is so intriguing and fun to me. One of the things that I like most about Math is that there is only ever one correct answer. Because I am so concrete this works well for me to know that something is either right or wrong. There are no gray areas! Having said that, another reason that I like Math is that you can arrive at the one correct answer in many different ways. This is one of the reasons that I also love teaching Math. While one particular strategy may work for one student, another student's brain may function a different way. I love helping students find the strategy that makes the "light bulb come on" for them.
Do you play a musical instrument?
Yes! I have played piano for more than 20 years. I also play the flute and love to sing! Music theory is one of my passions.
What is your educational philosophy?
My educational philosophy is multi-faceted. I believe that the teacher should have an active role in the classroom but that the students should be just as equally involved in their own learning. Learning happens best through the use of multiple intelligences and repetition of content matter in different and meaningful ways. Structure in a classroom is imperative if learning is to occur. Similarly, in order for students to reach their maximum potential, they must receive timely and pertinent feedback on assignments.
