Question:

What is the distance in space between the points with coordinates (2, 5, -9) and (-3, 4, -7)?

Seif H.
Answer:

the formula for the distance between 2 points is equal to the square root of the sum of squares of difference in each coordinate. This gives a value of sqrt of 30.

Question:

Aaron is staying at a hotel that charges $99.95 per night plus tax for a room. A tax of 8% is applied to the room rate, and an additional onetime untaxed fee of $5.00 is charged by the hotel. Which of the following represents Aaron’s total charge, in dollars, for staying x nights?

Seif H.
Answer:

The total charge would be equal to (99.95x)*1.08+5. This is as the number of nights only relates to the charge of the room per night, and not the one time 5 dollar charge.

Question:

Suggest how artificial gravity might be created on a space station. Estimate the parameters needed to achieve 9.8N/kg inside the ship.

Seif H.
Answer:

Our perception of gravity is merely us feeling the normal reaction force from the ground on our feet, which can be simulated by putting our astronauts on an elevator that accelerates upwards. Another idea would be placing our astronauts in a box that rotates around an axis. when the box starts rotating the centripetal force from the rotation of the box will cause the astronaut to feel a normal reaction force at his/her feet, simulating gravity. The parameters for 9.8N/kg can be figured out using equations of kinematics and circular motion.
