For whom do we write?
We write for readers. So, while it is important to be able to express freely one's thoughts and feelings, it is also important for the reader to understand these thoughts and feelings. Otherwise we might as well be making random marks on a stone somewhere.
Is the ability to do well in a subject innate? Do some people have it and others just don't?
Not at all. Anyone can achieve proficiency in any subject with hard work.
Is Classical music somehow better than other forms of music? Should it be considered a higher art form? Do listeners need special skills to understand it?
Classical music is music. Some of it is good, and some of it is not so good, just like every other genre of music. It shouldn't be written off, however, because of some preconceived notion of its superiority. Creating and listening to music is part of what it means to be human, and for most of modern Western history, so-called Classical music inspired people across generations. It can inspire anyone today as well.
