About Deirdre
Hi, I'm Deirdre! Growing up I always loved math and science, and I recently completed my B.S. in Biomedical Engineering. At the Northwestern Academic Support center, I worked as a tutor to other students in math, physics, biology, and chemistry (my favorite job ever!). When I'm not studying, I love drawing. I am a native Speaker of Spanish!
Teaching Experience
Teaching Experience
I worked as a peer tutor at Northwestern, and I tutored students both in groups and one-on-one.
The group met weekly and aimed to support students in an advanced physics class while learning good studying methods. To streamline learning, I curated a weekly set of problems that covered all the main aspects of the chapter being covered that week, and these would be started in session and finished at home.
I also held drop-in hours for one-on-one tutoring with students. Students would come in if they had specific problems they were having...

Northwestern University: Academic Support and Learning Advancement Center, Peer Tutor
2018 - 2019
Led weekly tutoring group session for college physics students focusing on collaborative problem solving and developing relationships between classmates. Held drop-in hours twice a week to mentor peers one-on-one.
UC Berkeley: Nomura Lab, Research Intern
2018 - 2018
Implemented activity-based protein profiling techniques to identify ligands covalently bonding to proteins that play key roles in cancers and neurodegenerative diseases. Tested efficacy of ligands in treating stress-induced cells modeling neurodegenerative disease such as ALS and Alzheimer’s disease. Verified and characterized experimental results through protein gel imaging, western blot analysis, and mass spectrometry.
Northwestern University: Organic Chemistry Teaching Laboratory, Reaction Methodologist
2016 - 2018
Tested and refined new procedures for upper-level organic chemistry synthesis labs. Characterized products through IR spectrometry, thin-layer chromatography, mass spectrometry, and nuclear magnetic resonance. Updated written lab procedures to reflect improved techniques for class experiments.
