Question:

Should I answer the questions in order or skip around?

Each correct answer gets you the same amount of points, so skip around! Do whatever is easiest for you first. Then come back to the ones that seemed harder and only spend time on them if you have it.

Yes! There is NO penalty for wrong answers on the ACT. So if you are running out of time, make sure you fill in an answer for every question. Statistically, you'll get 1 in 5 of them right!

Question:

20 = 7x + 6

We always start with "what's happening to X?" X is being multiplied by 7 and then adding 6. Start the farthest away, so that's the plus 6. We have to do the same thing to both sides, so "what is the opposite of plus 6?" Minus 6! We subtract 6 from both sides. That gives us 14 = 7x. What's happening to X now? It's being multiplied by 7. What's the opposite of times 7? Divide by 7! So we divide both sides by 7 and get 2=X.
