It is difficult to make a worthy question for Organic Chemistry without asking students to draw structures. Without shapes at my disposal, here is a basic question to test the student's knowledge surround Organic Chemistry definitions: Describe an allyl group.
An allyl group is a side chain of 3 carbons and a double bond. (-CH2-CH=CH2)
Solve the expression (3 + 5 + 6)4
Step 1: Use the Order of Operations to add the expression inside the () first. Equation now looks like: (14)4 Step 2: Multiply the expression inside the () by the number outside the () and solve 14 x 4 = 56
Solve 4x^2 = 36 to find x.
Step 1: Use the Order of Operations and divide 36 by 4 Equation now looks like: x^2 = 9 Step 2: Take the square root of both sides of the equation. sqrt(x^2)=sqrt(9) Step 3: Solve! x = 3
