Subject: Writing

Question:

What is a model format that could be used for writing a paragraph?

Answer:

One common method for structuring a paragraph the commentary format method. This is where you start your paragraph with a topic sentence in which you state what the main idea of the paragraph is going to be, or the point you are trying to make. Next, you should provide a concrete detail, a specific fact or quote, that supports your topic sentence and the point you are trying to make. Following this, you should have at least two sentences of commentary. This is your own opinion or interpretation of the concrete detail. It is not summary or further facts/details. You should repeat this format a second time (another concrete detail and two sentences of commentary) and end with a conclusion sentence. Your conclusion sentence should restate, in different words, the points that you made in the paragraph and once again express their importance.

Question:

What is an appositive? Define and then provide your own original sentence with an appositive.

Answer:

An appositive is a noun, or noun phrase, that renames the noun it is directly beside. For example, the following sentence contains an appositive: Billy, the class clown, was sent to detention for shouting during the lesson. The appositive in the sentence above is the noun phrase "the class clown" as it renames the noun Billy.
