You want to build a fence in you rectangle backyard. The length of the yard measures 10 feet, and the width of the yard measures 5 feet. What is the perimeter of the backyard.
We know the formula for rectangle perimeter is P = 2(l + w). That "l = 10" and "w = 5" so will will plug in the numbers into the formula: P = 2(10 + 5). We will solve for the parenthesis first: (10 + 5) = 15. Now we have P = 2 * 15. That equals to 30. Our answer is the perimeter of the yard is 30 feet.

If you have 24 cookies, and you want to share equally with 4 friends, how many cookies does each friend gets? 24 / 4 = X
We will use the strategy of creating 4 different groups and splitting the 24 cookies into each of each groups. (Here I will draw 4 circle and put in each circle like in a pattern and count 1 -24). We will count to see how many cookies are in each group/friend will receive. Each friend gets 6 cookies.

If you borrow $2 from a friend to buy a drink then you also want to borrow additional $3 to buy pizza, how much money do you owe your friend in all? -2 + (-3) = X
Since we know that borrow is negative, we know that the person borrows $2 = (-2) and borrows another $3 = (-3) . So we will add the total amount to that the person owes which is (-2) + (-3) = -5
