Why are religious studies important?
A.W. Tozier has wisely been paraphrased as saying: "The most important thing you can think about is 'what you think about' when you think about God, for THAT will determine what you think - about everything else." Every people group in world history has one non-survival related aspect in common: a sense of spirituality. That we "look up" and desire to pursue spiritual matters cannot be explained by our physical existence. There is no cause for it. Thus, religious studies aim to help people find the truth about who we are and why we are!
Subject: US Government and Politics
What determines the role of the U.S. Government & it's relationship with other nations?
The constitution reigns as the single most important guiding document for U.S. Government scope. The government's scope will change frequently, with laws, but the Constitution determines if it's permissible, in the first place. While the President has the greatest authority regarding foreign policy, the Constitution determines the "big picture" of what he is allowed to do, as the leader of the U.S. Government's Executive Branch.
What is one unique aspect regarding the field of philosophy?
Philosophy stands out because it relates to every field of study. That is, whether you're in law, medicine, business, music or even sports, philosophy addresses important areas within your vocation. Ethics touches every field; understanding why we pursue the arts, and sports, is often just as important as how we practice them. Philosophy endeavors us to think about why each career field is important, just and beneficial - only because of the results or "for its own sake?" Ultimately philosophy encourages you to think more accurately, while also broadening the depth and scope.
