Questions
Subject: Writing
How does one become a better writer - particularly when writing a literary analysis essay using evidence to support a claim?
Writing takes practice, practice, practice. But there are tricks to these types of essays that can make the task easier. I use a method called the power paragraph which builds a foundation for a lifelong understanding of how to structure these essays on one's own as one advances throughout his or her educational career.
Subject: College Admissions
What do I need to make a good impression on a college admissions officer?
To impress a college admissions officer, one needs to have strong grades, good test scores, and a well written personal essay. Test scores can be improved by practicing with an experienced educator who understands the tricks to test taking and can guide the student in understanding how to gain those crucial extra points. The personal essay is also just as important, as it shows how well one writes but it also gives an insight into the student that does not show up on test scores. I have excelled in helping students write these personal essays.
Subject: English
How do I become better in all matters pertaining to English Language Arts classes?
In order to improve one's performance in English Language Arts, one often needs to take the time to focus and dig deep into the text. The answers and lessons are not always evident by simple, quick reading. Sometimes one needs to take the time to do a close read and use different strategies to get the full meaning of what text is trying to convey. Figurative language, characterization, tone, mood, and setting are just a few of the elements one needs to have a firm understanding of to excel in English class. Often times it takes reading with someone who understands this and can point out the nuances the student.
