Question:

What does it mean for an article to be peer-reviewed? How is peer-reviewed different than scholarly?

Inactive
Megan P.
Answer:

An article is peer-reviewed if, before publication, it was read and evaluated by experts in the field. The peers will rigorously assess the article and either approve it, reject it, or ask for revisions. Scholarly articles are articles that are written by experts in the field to be read by other experts in the field. Peer-reviewed journals are always scholarly in nature but scholarly journals are not always peer-reviewed.

Answer:

Trephination was the practice of drilling a hole in the human skull to release pressure and/or blood build-up on the brain. It was used to treat cases of epileptic seizures, mental illness, traumatic brain injuries, and headaches/migraines. It is also believed trephination was used to release evil spirits out of the human body.
