Question:

Explain what FRBR stands for and means.

Answer:

FRBR stands for Functional Requirements for Bibliographic Records. FRBR is a way of thinking about an entity and its relationships. First, the Work is the idea or creation of an artistic expression, in this case, story ideas. Then the idea or story is written down, which is the Expression. When it is made into a book it is called the Manifestation. Finally, the object that is held in a person’s hand, the book, is an Item. It is important to understand that this database is recording the Manifestation of the entity, not the Item since the user, in this case, is interested in the story contained within the object, and not necessarily interested in the object itself.

Question:

What are some of the literary devices used in the poem "Annabel Lee" by Edgar Allan Poe? Why might he have used these devices in this poem?

Answer:

Poe used rhyme and alliteration to emphasize keywords and ideas in the poem such as Lee and Me at the end of the lines since the poem is about their perfect love. Poe also uses exaggerated comparisons to show the strength of their love for each other as in stanza 4 when he says the angels envied their love.

Question:

What are three strategies that can be used for striving readers to help them with vocabulary acquisition and how do they help?

Answer:

1. Interactive word walls. For example, in a given text, students self-select a word that is unfamiliar, look up the definition and put the word and definition on the wall to share with others. This helps them acquire words that are relevant to them. 2. vocabulary matching games in small groups can help them learn the meaning and pronunciation of words, and get them used to using academic words. 3. pre-teaching academic words will help students feel more comfortable with the content.
