Would you expect He2⊕ to be more stable than He2? Than He?
The only difference between He2 and He2⊕ is that the latter has only 1 electron (not 2) in the antibonding orbital. It possesses two electrons in the bonding orbital as does He2, but because of the one leas electron in destabilizing antibonding orbital in He2⊕ , it should be more stable than He2. (It is, of course, less stable than He which has no electrons in the antibonding orbital.)
