Subject: The Adobe Suite
Which of all the Adobe Creative Cloud (Adobe Suite) programs should I focus on learning?
It's rare to find people that are masters of the entire Adobe Creative Cloud (Adobe Suite), since it spans multiple career domains. I recommend understanding your personal strengths and interests in order to use them as your main guide. Those who like structure and have interests leaning towards computer science and programming tend to like Adobe Dreamweaver for website design and Adobe XD for website and app design. Visual storytellers normally have a different set of preferences. Those with inclinations towards video and cinematography will likely favor Adobe Premier Pro, Adobe Prelude and Adobe Rush for video editing, but those who like motion will likely prefer Adobe After Effects and Adobe Animate for animation and motion graphics. Those more interested in experiences will likely favor Adobe Dimension & Adobe Mixamo for 3D, and Adobe Aero for Augmented Reality (AR). Those who love drawing and illustrating might lean towards Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator. Those who are both structured and creative might lean towards learning Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Indesign, Adobe Acrobat DC and Adobe InCopy in order to learn graphic design and layout. If you love photography you'll probably choose Adobe Lightroom and Adobe Photoshop. If you're multi-disciplinary you might decide to learn a few that can cross-collaborate. Adobe has a free trial period that you can use to experiment and explore. Let me know if you need more personalized assistance, I'll be happy to guide you in determining which option is the best for you.
Subject: Graphic Design
How has graphic design been impacted by the increase in globalization?
Globalization has had a large impact on graphic design in recent years. The growing use and availability of the internet and digital media, as well as the decrease in costs for accessing software, such as Adobe Photoshop, has opened the floodgates to many so-called graphic designers from all over the globe. This has had, in my opinion, an overall negative impact on graphic design mainly because the flood of new entrants are largely focused on the aesthetics of design. This has caused misconceptions among the general public to emerge, that graphic design is artistic (creative) and focused only on aesthetics. This has led to a popular decrease in its overall value, primarily seen reflected in pricing. Large and sophisticated organizations tout the high value of design, but their nuanced understanding has yet to trickle down to the general populace. This opens the door for opportunity, for example, while aesthetic-driven graphic design is seeing its value further decrease, strategy-driven design can better bridge the gap between design and business and can be perceived as being of much higher value.
Subject: Digital Media
Which facet of digital media is the most important?
The most important facet of digital media is the user experience (UX). Most digital media projects are created for commercial purposes, thus having data about the user is paramount in order to craft great experiences for them. The best creative team, the best technology, the best storytelling, the best UI and the best project management are all rendered null if the user is not the primary factor. Without the user there is no experience, nor any digital media to create in the first place. The user is the foundation upon which all other facets of digital media can build upon.
