Question:

Find the sum of: 25+ (-30) + 7.

First you want to remember that we cannot just combine the numbers in any order, we specifically must go from left to right because of PEMDAS. This means we first must do 25+(-30). Now a (+) times a (-) equals a (-) so it is 25-30. Now you can draw a number line to help you or you can think of it as money. The negative number being how much you owe a friend and the positive number being how much you have paid them back. In this case you owe 30 dollars and pay only 25, this means you still owe \$-5. So since 25+(-30)= -5 now we deal with the +7. So now the question is -5+7. Again think about it like money so you owe 5 dollars because it is negative and paid 7 dollars because it is positive. Therefore, your balance is you have an extra \$2 dollars. So the answer to the question above is 2.

What is the question asking us? Well if we look at the last sentence the question is asking the total which means we should add the amount that Susie and Jarred brought to school together. Now we know Susie brought 5 snacks. But we don't know exactly how many snacks Jarred brought, however the problem tells us he brought 7 more than Susie. Since Susie brought 5 that means Jarred brought 7 + 5. The reason being that me brought "7 more snacks than Susie," the word "more" tells us this is an addition problem. So Jarred brought 7+5 snacks = 12. Therefore the answer will be 5+12= 17 since Susie brought 5 snacks and Jarred brought 12 snacks.

The answer to this question is rounded to the hundredths place is y = 7.67. First, you want to combine your y variables all on one side and your constant variables on the other. Your y variables are 5y and 2y. Your constants are 10 and -13. So to combine them you subtract 2y from both sides and you 10+3y=-13. Then you subtract 10 from both sides and you get 3y=-23. Now lastly you have to get the y by itself, we do this by seeing how the y is attached. It id attached through multiplication since y is multiplying with 3 therefore to get rid of 3 we must do the opposite. The opposite of multiplication is division so we must divide both sides of the equation by 3. Then we get y=23/3, which equals about 7.67.
