What are the benefits of studying literature?
Reading a good book opens the door to a universe of wonder and amazement. It is incredible to experience the emotion, passion, suspense, and heart that an author can pour into a story. Each book, each story is unique because each author brings different style, worldview, past, imagination, and motivation to the pieces he/she writes. By studying literature, we can expand our knowledge and understanding of human nature as well as foster our own senses of imagination and creativity.
Subject: US History
Why should we study U.S. history, or any history for that matter?
Studying history, whether specific to our country or expanded to the world, opens the door to discovery and helps us to understand how our nation, laws, traditions, and even geography came to be. By studying the mistakes, successes, ideas, failures, and events of the past, we can learn from those who have come before us and build upon what they have left behind. We can see patterns and trends work to change those that are harmful and detrimental to the success of our nation.
