Describe the importance of information literacy for all levels and types of learners.
All learners are information seekers requiring proper knowledge and necessary skills to be able to locate, access and use information in a digital era. Students as young as grade 2 should begin fundamental information literacy instruction which allows learners from elementary school through graduate school to fully process information from all other subject areas.
Identify a search strategy and how to effectively use it.
To perform an effective search within a database or an advanced search using a search engine, the student or researcher should come up with several key words that are specific to the topic or question. Once the student or researcher has identified key terms relevant to the subject being researched, the student or researcher should combine these terms in separate field boxes and combine these key terms with the use of operators such as OR to yield the most relevant search results.
How can a classroom teacher encourage a group of unengaged students to participate?
The students may be not engaged for a number of reasons. The most likely are: the level of content is not appropriate, the student's interest is not piqued, or the student is having a behavioral issue interfering with the learning. To engage the student and increase participation the teacher may try the following: modify the content and or instructional delivery so that the student is learning content at the appropriate level and in a way that is tailored to his or her learning styles and strengths, spark the interest of students by using examples during instruction that pertain to their personal interests or have a discussion that is relevant to the students lives, and finally, to resolve a potential behavior issue a simple solution may be to change the seating arrangement of the classroom.
