Subject: Religious Studies
How does Religious Studies differ from Theology?
While Religious Studies and Theology are closely related, they differ in how they approach the study of religion. Theology generally studies a particular religious tradition and focuses on the faith aspect. Religious Studies focuses on the study of God and faith in general and is more analytical.
Subject: English as a Second Language
What are the most effective methods to achieve understanding when teaching English as a Second Language?
The most effective methods to achieve understanding in English as a Second Language are a combination of Total Physical Response, Use of Props, and Repetition. Total Physical Response assists the learner by reducing stress and helping the student to relax. The use of a variety of props assists the learner by connecting the language to a concrete, visual item. Repetition is the key to memorization and assists the learner in remembering the vocabulary and concepts. An "I do, We do, You do" approach to teaching also helps the learner to work toward independence and language mastery.
