Should I learn Spanish if I am interested in the language but I don’t have anyone with whom I can speak it?
Yes! Learning a language is excellent exercise for your brain. As English speakers, learning Spanish is a great place to start in your language-learning journey, as it has a relatively standard set of grammar and pronunciation rules that make it easy to learn. Learning Spanish can also help you better understand English grammar and accents by comparison. Along with the language, you will cultivate the opportunity to connect with more people and cultures in the future by establishing this common ground. The reasons for learning are endless.
Subject: Music Theory
Why should I be interested in music theory? If I can play an instrument or sing, isn’t that already enough?
Although learning to play an instrument is already a great accomplishment in itself, learning music theory can add another layer of depth and understanding to your performance. If you do not play an instrument, music theory can still be of interest to you. Theory explains why music sounds the way it does, the ‘rules’ behind music composition, and how/why breaking those ‘rules’ can produce beauty as well. This is only scratching the surface of questions music theory can help you to answer.
Why are scales and etudes important to practice when learning an instrument?
Scales and etudes are useful for an infinite number of reasons. One reason is that they allow the player to become comfortable with recurring patterns encountered in their performance pieces. Non-percussive instruments also can work on their intonation during these exercises, training their ear to the diatonic relationships between notes.
