How do I prepare for the GRE when I don't have that much time?
The key to GRE preparation is understanding that this exam is not about learning new information but using what you have been learning throughout your educational experience effectively. As a tutor, I would help students to understand the strengths and weaknesses afforded to them by their degree (for example, an English Major would likely need more support on the Quantitative Reasoning section) and work forwards from there. Familiarity with the testing format, number of questions, etc are key but the most important factor is individual comfort and confidence in employing what they have learned throughout their university education.
How do I improve my writing?
As a person seeking to write better (that is to produce better quality writing), the key is to improve one's organizational and editing skills. For most people, where they have trouble is not the writing process itself but rather generating a first draft, which comes with planning, or turning that first draft into a finished piece, which comes with editing. I am to work closely with students to assess their individuals strengths and weaknesses and help them on both aspects of this process.

‘The rise of aggressive forms of nationalism since 1990 highlights the bankruptcy of liberal ideas of self-determination.’ (Discuss)
The rise of aggressive forms of nationalism since 1990 may indeed highlight the bankruptcy of liberal ideas of national self-determination, but it points to the greater importance of a related liberal ideal: securing political self-determination, that is the consent of all who are governed. Following the Cold War period, a series of violent ethnic wars were fought to secure national self-determination. These threaten the idea that every nation deserves a state of its own. However, places where such ethnic conflicts emerge are rife with minority discrimination and unrepresentative government. Thus, to secure a more peaceful world liberal principles of democratic practice remain as important as ever.
