In "Hamlet," we see that the character Hamlet is obsessed with death. In the space below give examples from the text that demonstrate this obsession. Further, explain what the theme of death illustrates in this play.
In the play "Hamlet," the character Hamlet is obsessed with death after his own father is murdered. Throughout this play we see many examples of this, such as through the figure of the ghost, his ponderings of what happens when one dies, and even through the physical aspects of death we see in the cemetery through the skull and bones. In this play in particular, I believe the theme of death is used to spur revenger, or to illustrate that the uncertainty that comes with death can lead an individual to seek answers and in turn revenge. Ultimately, Hamlet seeks this revenge by killing Claudius in the end of the novel, which can also reflect a sort of justice. Another example of how death is an important theme in this play is Hamlet's ponderings on the idea of suicide. The famous "To be or not to be" speech within the novel addresses the very topic of death and the natural human fear of what comes after death. It is this fear Hamlet is stating that often stops individuals from committing suicide, along with religious values. As you can see, Hamlet's obsession with death is based both on the sudden murder of his father, as well as his own quest for justice and revenge.
In JK Rowling's "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" the theme of friendship is demonstrated through the bond of Ron, Harry, and Hermione. Using an example from the text, as well as text evidence to support your answer, please explain why the theme of friendship is important in this text.
The theme of friendship is important in the novel "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" because Harry, Ron, and Hermione are able to help one another get through challenges. For example, in the text when the three friends are trying to save the Sorcerer's Stone, they must rely on one another's talents to save them. Ron must use his gift for playing chess to move them forward, while Hermione must remember her spells to help them escape the Devil's Snare. Lastly, Harry uses his ability to fly quickly and swiftly to find the key they need to unlock a door. This example demonstrates the teamwork the three friends use to help save the school. As you can see, friendship is one of the important themes in the novel "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone."
