Name a key op-ed component.
A key component of an op-ed is a hook. The first sentence, or first few sentences, of your op-ed should both pull the reader in and make it clear to them what you aim to write about, if not your particular stance.
What makes Othello unique?
While there are many answers to this question, one reason that Othello stands out is because it is one of a few plays that star a character of color. Othello is a Moor--a dated term used to refer to individuals of North African descent--and the interactions that he has with other characters in the play allow us to have a better understanding of racial dynamics in the sixteenth century, as well as what Shakespeare may have thought of those dynamics.
What is the philosophical significance of Albert Camus's The Stranger?
Camus, part of a wave of French existentialists, wrote a few novels that illustrated his philosophical views at various points in time, including The Stranger and The Plague. The Stranger (1942) demonstrates a key tenet of existential philosophy, that of fundamental human alienation. This becomes apparent in a narration that centers the protagonist Meursault's stream of consciousness, and that highlights the emotional, psychological, and physiological rift between Meursault and the other characters. The phenomenon of alienation is also exemplified in Meursault's apparent apathy towards the death of his mother throughout the text. The novel also contains hints of absurdism, the philosophical stance that purports the meaninglessness of everything that is supposed to have meaning.
