Question:

What is the different between the clone stamp and the healing brush tool?

Judith C.
Answer:

Although both the clone stamp and healing brush are similar photo editing tools that allow the user to copy one part of the imaging being edited to another desired part of the imagine, the clone tool does not allow for blending as the heal brush does. The clone tool will copy the selected area exactly, so the edges of the clone may need to be cleaned up or blended. The heal brush will take into account the area that is being painted and try to blend the edges of the of the clone to its background, eliminating the need to go back and blend manually.

Question:

When optimizing a model, what are some common issues with the geometry that you must look for to ensure that your model will not have any issues when UVing, texturing, rigging or animating?

Judith C.
Answer:

You must ensure that all of the polygons in the model are in quads, meaning that they all have only 4 sides. This is to ensure that the model will triangulate correctly as many engines will read 3d models in tris (3 sided polygons), and having some tris along with quads is okay. N-gons (any polygon with more than 4 sides) must be optimized into quads or tris because the computer will not know how to triangulate the polygon and may result in unexpected rendering. Stars (vertices that connect more than 4 points) can also be optimized for better edge flow, but can also be acceptable depending on the model.
