Why libraries...aren't they dying with everything online?
Full disclosure, my first library job fell into my lap in college because I really wanted free books. I had no idea what I was doing. However, in my 12 years, I worked closely with adults, teens and children to provide them with an experience that would change their minds about libraries being outdated. I coordinated everything from Halloween parades to English as a Second Language classes to technology classes that taught the computer illiterate computer and research skills in a way that was easily understood and tailored to their capabilities. My biggest accomplishment was teaching middle school students how to use databases for their school research projects using scavenger hunts to make learning fun. The goal was to empower all of my students to utilize information in a way that provided them with the most accurate information with the least amount of effort.

What made you focus on the Latin American History?
While it was not an option to specialize in specific subjects at the time, when I obtained my undergraduate degree I focused on the Age of Exploration, the conquistadors and their role in the "colonization" of Latin America and the impact that it had on modern countries. From religious syncretism with the Aztecs and the Mayan to the eventual impact that colonization and slavery had on modern economics, my education took me from the 1500s to the South American dictators of the 1970s as a means of explaining the current economic situation fo countries like Brazil and Venezuela.

Can you tell me some details about your education and experience with teaching this subject matter?
I received my BA from Rutgers in History. At time it was difficult to specialize in anything beyond a general subject matter without obtaining a Masters degree or a PhD. Rutgers focused heavily on medieval history on the continent, from the founding of Christianity, to specific battles like the Battle of Agincourt, through to the Age of Exploration.
