Does infectious diseases cause more economical burden globally than chronic disease? Which type of diseases impose more burden in high income countries such as the United States of America and United Kingdom?
Globally, chronic diseases are more difficult to tackle in comparison to infectious diseases. This remains true for both upper income and middle income countries. While lower incomes countries are still trying to address issues of outbreaks of infectious diseases, middle income countries are struggling with the dual burden of infectious and chronic diseases. The main reasons for increased chronic diseases are as follows: - Improvement of life expectancy in middle and upper income countries. - Sedentary lifestyles - Increased and improved access to infection preventing medications and vaccination. - Globalization and better access to health education.
What is statistics? Why do we have to learn statistics and what is its importance?
Google, Twitter, Facebook, Amazon, Youtube, Linkedin, Yelp, Uber, Summoners War or any other application you may be using on your phone, someone on the other side is constantly collecting data from you. Well, you might be thinking- "Yes, I know that but what does it have to do with statistics and its importance" right? Well, the answer is : it has everything to do with statistics. Amazon, facebook and youtube, for example use the data they collect from you to constantly predict the advertisements that might be most interesting and relevant to you. Therefore, the advertisements that you see are the outcomes of statistical analysis that you do not see. Insights like this are many and constantly being produced, which would not have been possible without the help of statistics. Statistics is a branch of mathematics that helps us to understand events from the past and to predict possible events in the future. It includes the following steps; Data collection, analysis, interpretation and dissemination. In today's world, a large extent of your success is determined by your ability to provide consistent answer to questions with the knowledge you gain from data and statistics takes you one step closer to achieving this, therefore making statistics a very important subject to learn.
