Explain a barrier created by strict gender roles being imposed on young children?
There are many problems that arise with a society that enforces strict gender roles. It is harmful to men, women, and non-binary individuals. From birth, we are forced into two worlds: One is a world of pink and purple, filled with butterflies, flowers and Barbie dolls. The other world is of blue and red, where science education is encouraged and physical work is celebrated. Young girls are taught to be seen and not heard, blinded by glitter and beauty queens, while young boys "will be boys", who are encouraged to be physical in sports and confrontation. This leads to problems much deeper than the gendering of colors. Boys are encouraged to "tease" the girls they like by pulling their hair, pushing them over, and displaying their dominance over them, while girls are told that they get picked on by young boys because "oh, they just like you, that's why they're being mean to you." This is one of life's earliest exposures to rape culture. It praises boys being physical towards girls, and that physicality = affection.
