Question:

In a broad sense, describe the differences between the Republican Party and the Democratic Party.

Kyle J.
Answer:

Overall, Republicans tend to favor a smaller federal government compared to Democrats. For instance, Republicans are more likely to oppose additional taxation and government spending. A Republican is more likely to believe the government shouldn't be involved with certain aspects of society, while a Democrat might be more inclined to believe government can help in the same situation. Take higher education for example. A Republican is more likely to believe that current federal grants for higher education are sufficient, or should be decreased in an attempt to lower the cost of tuition. A Democrat is more likely to believe the government should fund college education for everyone through tax dollars.

Question:

7x + 12 = 3x + 20. What is the value of x?

Kyle J.
Answer:

The value of x is 2. We know this by isolating x on one side of the expression. To do this, subtract 12 from each side, making the equation 7x = 3x +8. From there, subtract 3x from each side, making it 4x = 8. Then divide each side by 4, and conclude x = 2
