What does one expect from a course in physiology?
Speaking on my own behalf, a course in physiology should demonstrate the complexity, efficiency, and connectivity of the human body. Being that we all have bodies, it should bring about a deep appreciation and admiration for the human body and its systems. Whether science is one's desired field of study, teaching should be an experience that seeks one's engagement and involvement.
Why is it vital that we all go through general biology courses?
The general biology courses are not merely stepping stones to be able to move on to the "real stuff." It, too, is important. The concepts of general biology are fundamental to having a comprehensive understanding of processes and mechanisms. Though not all the information will apply to one's career, it helps in the formation of connections between ideas.
If anything can be taken away from a course in anatomy, what would it be?
When one builds an "anatomical map" of the human body in their mind, one can begin to see how structure clearly and distinctly relates to function. Anatomy is the foundation for the understanding of mechanisms within systems and relationships between systems.
