Question:

What are 2 possible ways to solve the problem 35+17?

Answer:

One possible way to solve 35+17 is to combine tens and ones. You would pull out your tens, 30 and 10, and add them together. Then pull out your ones, 5 and 7, and add them together. Then add the two totals together. 30+10=40, 5+7+12, 40+12=52. Another possible way to solve 35+17 is to get to the nearest ten. I can think which number is closest to the next ten number, or multiple of ten. 17 is closest because I only need 3 more to get to 20. I can pull 3 out of 35 to make it 3+32=35. I can add the 3 to 17 to get 20, 3+17=20. Then I can add 20+32 to get 52, 20+32=52.

Question:

What is the author's purpose of any given piece of text?

Answer:

The author's purpose of a text is the reason the author wrote the text. It could be to entertain, inform, or persuade the reader. If the author wrote to entertain, they want the reader to enjoy reading the text, and it is likely a story. If the author wrote to inform, they want the reader to learn something from the text, and it is likely nonfiction text. If the author wrote to persuade, they are trying to convince the reader of something, and it is likely an essay or article.
