Question:

Where can I find examples of gender identity in literature?

Answer:

Virginia Wolfe is an author who is famous for her feminist writing and discusses the flexibility of sexuality and gender in her books. I recommend looking at "Orlando". Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte also looks into gender roles and the limitation put on women at the time. Shakespeare is also a great place to look for references to gender identity. His comedies like "A Midsummer's Nights Dream" and "Much Ado about Nothing" feature men dressing up as women and vise versa in order to get out of sticky situations.
