Question:

If x-5=12, then what will the value of x^2-40 be?

Yohana G.
Answer:

First, we know that our total is 12. In order to find X, we must do the inverse sign of the number we already have on the left side of the equation. In this case, we would ADD five, to the total number. Giving us x=17. Now that we know x equals 17, we simply plug in the 17 for the x in the following equation. 17^2-40. 17*17=289 so 289-40=249 Giving us the final answer of 249.
