Question:

Why can a person on keto diet land in the ER for ketoacidosis if he continues to consume carbs alongside ketones?

Inactive
Asmaa A.
Answer:

This is because the body's primary source of fuel is glucose obtained from carbohydrates. If a person on keto diet continues to consume carbs, the body will continue burning carbs for fuel while the ketones keep accommodating in the body leading to ketoacidosis due to lack of consumption.

Question:

Why do we need to screen (almost) every potent drug candidate against the hERG channel and CYP450 complex?

Inactive
Asmaa A.
Answer:

This is because the body functions as a whole. Just because a drug is designed for Alzheimer's or any other disease, doesn't mean it will produce effect on the target location alone. We must ensure that it doesn't block the hERG channel in heart as blocking it will result in failure to transport blood and oxygen to the rest of the body causing death. It must also not block the CYP450 channel as it will cause failure of the drug's removal from the system once the desired response has been produced. This can lead to off target toxicity

Question:

How will you design a model (using only correlation) to predict blood cancer in subjects using only their CBC reports?

Inactive
Asmaa A.
Answer:

In order to design a model, we need to select only relevant variables from the CBC report that actually help predict blood cancer. For this purpose, we shall establish correlation between different variables ( independent or x variables) like RBC, WBC, Platelet and WBC subtype counts with dependent variable (y) i.e., blood cancer. High positive correlation would mean higher concentration of that variables leads to cancer in the subject and high negative correlation would indicate an inverse relationship. But, we will also have to find the correlation amongst the x variables to ensure removal of variables that exhibit multicollinearity. After shortlisting the variables, we can use simple or logistic regression model or many other wide range of models to create a model for prediction of blood cancer using variables of a CBC report
