While it is important to develop practical skills, those only come secondary to the soft skills that will be applicable in any job situation. Having strong communication skills are crucial, including the ability to discuss difficult topics and self-advocacy. Communication will help develop teamwork skills and interpersonal skills as well. Assertiveness and recognizing when to utilize it versus when to step back also will help in terms of establishing yourself as a strong employee.
