What are some qualities of a good thesis statement?
Good qualities in a thesis statement include a complete sentence at the end of the introductory paragraph describing what the author will argue in the paper. It should be the focus of the paper, and the summary of the argument in one or two sentences. Example of a good thesis statement: In this paper, I will argue that George Washington was the most influential of our founding fathers because of his military accomplishments, and his success as first President of the United States. Example of a bad thesis statement: George Washing was the best founding father. This sentence does not directly describe the authors argument, nor does it give reason as to why the author thinks this way.

Autonomy is one of the basic principle of philosophy and bioethics. In what ways can the issue of autonomy be both beneficial, and problematic in case studies involving child and guardian disagreement?
The way that autonomy can be beneficial to a specific court case is that the individual who is considered the minor can make the argument that they are an autonomous being. The child may argue that they are of sound mind, capable of making rational decisions, and infringing upon this autonomy is ethically wrong. However, it can be problematic when arguing from the opposing side, because it is not entirely evident where guardian authority overrides the autonomy of the child. A child might have the abilities to be autonomous, however legal law says they are not able to make independent decisions until the age of 18. Therefore in most cases, autonomy is problematic in court cases such as this, because it blurs the line between guardian authority and individual autonomy.
