Why is writing important for students?
First, writing improves overall communication skills that help people in everyday life and in their careers. Writing furthermore boosts creativity and imagination. It is important in academics, simply because it allows students to develop and demonstrate their communication and knowledge. Most importantly from my perspective as a professor is that writing boosts students' confidence, which I saw numerous times over 25 years.
Why should people study literature?

Furthermore, much literature educates and informs readers about the past--history--and other cultures, past and present. Finally, literature entertains readers.
