Question:

What is an authority when it comes to research and how does it apply?

Julia H.
Answer:

Authority is constructed and contextual, which means that all information resources are drawn from the authors’ expertise and credibility based on the information need and the context in which the information will be used. This applied to research by allowing the researcher to know when searching for information, they must be mindful of any type of influence the author(s) would have while conducting research and writing the article. They must ask themselves “Who? Why? Process?” when assessing sources.

Question:

Define post-structuralism and how that applies to modern literature.

Julia H.
Answer:

Post-structuralism is where it questions structuralism at its most central point, movement from the particular (signifier) to the structure that it governs (the signified). Also, that all human knowledge is flawed and is created in the shape of power. Since knowledge is shaped by power, power also shapes culture to create truths. This applies to literature by allowing the reader to have a different lens to analyze said literature and to be able to understand the "truths" that the author is attempting to portray in their work.
