What does the color yellow often symbolize in literature?
Yellow, like most colors, has both positive and negative connotations, depending on context. Yellow has been associated with positivity, joy, vitality, sunshine, and success. However, negative connotations are just as common (if not arguably moreso) and include sickness, madness, betrayal, and cowardice.
What differentiates a gerund from a verb?
Gerunds are words ending in -ing which would normally be verbs, but act as nouns in the context of the sentence. If the -ing word acts as an adverb or verb, it is a present participle. So, if you ask Dad where Kaitlyn is, and he says, "She's practicing for the tournament," he used "practicing" as a present participle. If you roll your eyes and tell him, "Practicing takes forever," the same word then becomes the subject of the sentence and acts as a noun. "Practicing" has now become a gerund.
