Question:

In what ways was Franklin D. Roosevelt's New Deal successful and to what extent did it work to pull the United States out of the Great Depression?

Rachel T.
Answer:

Franklin D. Roosevelt's New Deal was successful at achieving what historians have termed the three Rs: recovery, relief, and reform. FDR was able to stop the economic bleeding caused by the stock market crash of 1929 by implementing new federal banking policies. For example FDR established the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation which guaranteed bank depositors. This worked to return faith in and to stabilize the failing banking system. The New Deal provided relief to Americans through multiple organizations such as the CCC and the WPA. These organizations created jobs through building projects across the county. And finally, FDR"s New Deal reformed the system of governance in America by implementing policies, such as the Social Security Act, that worked to provide a social safety net. FDR's New Deal was successful at stabilizing the United States during the greatest economic crisis in its history, but ultimately World War II and the demand for American munitions pulled the United States out of the Great Depression.

Question:

What significant social and cultural changes took place due to the Industrial Revolution in Great Britain (1790-1850)?

Rachel T.
Answer:

The Industrial Revolution in Great Britain fundamentally changed British society. Prior to the Industrial Revolution, most of Britain's workforce worked in agriculture in the feudal system. After the Industrial Revolution, a new class structure developed. The introduction of mass industry and industrial factory work created a large working class while at the same time giving rise to the wealthier bourgeoisie. The new class structure in Great Britain changed everything from British politics and economics to changing gender roles in British culture.
