What are the five pillars of Islam?
The five pillars or foundation of Islam are essentially the same for both the Shia and Sunni Muslim sects. Muslims are expected to follow these pillars with the utmost devotion. The pillars are below. Iman (Faith): Muslims believe and profess their faith by reciting the Shahadah. Through this utterance, Muslims state that, "There is no god but Allah, and Muhammad is his prophet." Salah (Prayer): Muslims pray (salah) at least five times daily and at specific times; dawn, midday, afternoon, sunset, and nightfall. Prayers are said in Arabic. Zakah (Purification): Mindfulness of the needs of others and contributing toward the good of society is an obligation. Traditionally, Muslims give a portion of their earnings or wealth to charity. If a Muslim is too poor to do so, then he can help others by doing good works. Everyone is expected to give of his time, wealth or goods as a way of acting out their faith in Allah. Sawm (Fasting): Muslims are obligated to fast during the month of Ramadan. Typically all healthy adults and those over the age of puberty practice abstinence from all food and drink. Married couples do not engage in relations. There are some exceptions to the rules for fasting. However, Muslims believe that practicing self-restraint in this way reminds them of their true purpose; their relationship with Allah. Hajj (Pilgrimage): Muslims are also obligated to make the hajj to Mecca in Saudi Arabia at least once in their lifetime. Once there, Muslims participate in traditional rites and prayers while making a procession around Ka'bah seven times. Participants present themselves before Allah and prayer for forgiveness.
What is the importance of promoting the development of fine motor skills?
Strong fine motor skills help preschool students not only to play, but also to develop self-care skills. When children use their hands to play with manipulatives, they exercise the hand muscles while having fun. Doing puzzles, art activities, hand washing, and using blocks require eye-hand coordination. With more practice, children should be able to use a zipper, hold a pencil, start to draw, and write. These skills are critical for everyday life.
